Christopher L. Augostini will become the 22nd president of Emory University when he assumes the role on September 1. He currently serves as executive vice president and enterprise chief operating officer, where he leads the strategic and operational integration of Emory University and Emory Healthcare. In this enterprise-wide role, he and his teams ensure Emory’s academic and clinical missions are strategically and sustainably advanced. 

Appointed executive vice president and enterprise chief operating officer in 2025, Augostini previously spent more than eight years as Emory University’s executive vice president for business and administration and chief financial officer, and for three of those years also served as chief financial officer for Emory Healthcare. In these roles, the chief financial officers of both Emory University and Emory Healthcare report to him. His portfolio includes strategic oversight of integrated capital planning and real estate, investment management, finance, debt management, enterprise risk management, internal audit, and compliance integration across the Emory enterprise. Augostini also provides oversight for the university’s administrative functions, including business operations, information technology and cybersecurity, human resources, and public safety.

Augostini collaborates with the Emory University Board of Trustees, the Emory Healthcare Board of Directors, and senior academic, administrative, and health care leaders to advance enterprise initiatives that strengthen Emory’s financial and operational rigor and resilience, enabling long-term growth and competitiveness. He oversees all enterprise operational functions, supporting one of Georgia’s largest and most complex organizations and one of the nation’s top 25 universities.

As vice chair of the Emory Healthcare Board of Directors, Augostini plays a central role in governance and strategic alignment across the health system. He collaborates with the board chair and the executive vice president for Woodruff Health Sciences / CEO of Emory Healthcare to ensure coordinated leadership and enterprise-wide success.

Before joining Emory, Augostini served for 17 years as senior vice president and chief operating officer at Georgetown University, where he led financial and operational transformations.

Augostini serves on the board of directors of W. R. Berkley Corporation. He earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree in public policy analysis from the State University of New York at Albany. He and his wife, Maria, have two daughters.
