Uppergate Drive, shown here through a new chain-link fence at Clifton Road, has been closed due to construction of the new Winship Cancer Institute. Project Manager Steve Lange said Facilities Management recently received permission from DeKalb County to close the street until summer 2002. He said the move was made mostly due to safety reasons as the 250,000-square-foot, $51.8 million facility rises up from the former site of Uppergate Pavilion. Some access remains to the pediatric clinic and Egleston loading docks, Lange said, and pedestrian traffic is still permitted along one sidewalk. Photo by Jon Rou.
